Our Story
Tradition and innovation
Wool has been valued and processed as a natural raw material in the European Alps for over hundreds of years. Against the background of this traditional knowledge of wool processing and use, the Schoeller spinning mill was founded in Austria over 150 years ago. With the rapid development of skiing, the demand for suitable clothing was also increasing. What could be more obvious than using the wool quality that has been tried and tested from the felting and loden sector? The name “Sport / Loden” was born.
Although it is now one of the most innovative spinning and dyeing mills in Europe, the knowledge of wool is maintained and developed further. It forms the basis of the globally successful yarn. The rough landscape of Patagonia and some selected regions of South America are the sustainable sources of these noble fibers. Only here does the required high quality wool thrive.
As a hundred years ago, wool buyers and business partners acquire and process this wool on site and process it in a complex process to create a high-quality combed top. The worsted spinning and dyeing of the quality Sport / Loden is carried out using the latest manufacturing technologies and taking into account traditional knowledge.
Synergies are particularly important when it comes to dyeing, because the Schoeller dyeing mill is located on the edge of the Vorarlberg Alps, directly on Lake Constance. It is the largest drinking water storage tank in Europe and therefore sustainable production and dyeing processes are the top priority. This is one of many reasons why all colours meet the strict Eco-Tex and Bluesign requirements and, if necessary, are dyed according to the even stricter GOTS or EU Ecolabel criteria. Nature, tradition and know-how have resulted in the unique yarn with tangible naturalness and unique character, which also benefits animal welfare. For this reason, Sport / Loden became the most successful and versatile wool yarn of its kind.

Sport Loden Gots
Stock service
Many markets and our customers often demand the highest possible sustainability and ecological product safety. What could be more obvious than to combine the already very sustainably positioned Sport/Loden with one of the most recognised and strictest standards worldwide. The combination of Sport/Loden with the Global Organic Standard (GOTS) offers the best conditions for this. Thus the Sport/Loden GOTS was born. In the table in the back of the colour card, all GOTS colours that can be dyed without changing the recipe are marked. Because customer service is important to us, we have also built up a GOTS stock programme for immediate delivery.

Felts
Felts for everyone
Felted fabrics are felted wool knits that are suitable for both traditional and innovative applications. For example, extremely sustainable softshell jackets are produced from felted fabrics. They can be produced water-repellent, thermo-regulating, breathable and abrasion-resistant without the use of chemicals. Felted fabrics made of Sport/Loden GOTS are naturally degradable and can be GOTS certified.
The extended yarn range, e.g. from Sydney, Canberra, Supreme and Soft Felt, allows completely different handles and product variants to be created.
Use the innovative new possibilities with one of the most natural materials in the world.
